REICO – Asphalt Plant – Going Mobile!

Having heard of K&S Marketing's reputation for providing swift and reliable solutions through our clients, REICO reached out to us to offer a solution. They requested an urgent meeting, as their supplier had pulled back at the last minute on a project for the construction of an asphalt batching plant.

After evaluating and understanding their needs, we realised that we could improve their operation by utilising a totally different concept.

The brief was to supply a traditional asphalt batching plant, which produces high temperature tarmac mix which is then loaded on transport trucks which drive to the location and unload the hot mix onto the asphalt pavers. There was a major hurdle though. In spite of the warm climate, the fact that the asphalt sometimes needed to be transported hundreds of kilometres away, this meant that the temperature of the mix fell by the time the truck arrived at the destination – causing difficulty in the laying of same mix. Additionally, the logistics of the distances meant a lot of took a long time to get there.

We proposed a different concept. A mobile asphalt plant, which can be moved along the road as the paving progresses. This consists of three semi-trailers, which can be moved by regular tractor trucks. One mixing drum machine trailer, one triple silo/conveyor trailer (where the raw materials – gravel/sand are mixed and of course a self-contained asphalt tank semitrailer with on board heat maintenance oven to keep the asphalt at the required temperature. These components are then mixed within the plant producing tarmac mix in situ!

This was a complete game changer!

Instead of massive distances, delivery drivers only had very short distances to travel. This meant massive savings in time, effort, and wear and tear of the transport equipment, as well as faster performance due to more trips within the same time span!

The largest and most voluminous components of tarmac are gravel and sand – these can easily be sourced locally at strategically located yards which are close to the location of the road as it progresses.

Unlike a traditional asphalt plant, when changing a mix, substantially less raw material is wasted.

Thus, we managed to exceed the client's expectations by offering a superior and massively more efficient solution better suited to their requirements at a more competitive price! In collaboration with our partners at Triaso S.A., we successfully supplied this first mobile asphalt plant in Libya.
